Hi,

I have a Maxtor Fireball3 (under warranty) it has developed a crater in one
of the chips on the underside - therefore it doesn't spin up any more!

My question is, if I were to obtain the same model, could I simply swap the
PCB's at the bottom to gain access to the data on the now dead disk?

Thanks!

Sparks...

Can be a problem when you let the smoke out.

Probably and certainly worth a try if the data matters.

Get as close to the exact model and revision as you can.

The data isnt critical (It was my mum's system disk - all her documents are
stored on a server in the house, but email was stored locally :S

I have seen one on eBay going for £20.00
