Deactivated graphics card

For years, I have been using my Matrox G400 graphics card with Windows
2000 without problems. A few days ago, my Windows 2000 switched to
800x600 with 16 colors when I booted it. It seems that Windows has
deactivated the Matrox driver. I get the following error message for
the graphics card in the device manager: "There is no driver necessary
for this device. The driver was deactivated (Code 32)"

I have deactivated and re-activated the driver, I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the driver, I have used the "maintenance mode (F8). But
nothing helped.

The card works without problems when I boot Linux on the same machine.

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Bernd

What happens if you uninstall the device, in Device Manager, then reboot to
allow win to reinstall.

Also you didnt use any MS driver updates did you?

Reinstalling worked, but did not help. I only use drivers from Matrox.

I just found a message in Display properties->Settings->Advanced...-
>Graphics card->Properties->Ressources

E/A 03B0 - 03BB is used by:
AMD-751 Processor-to-AGP-Controller
E/A 03C0 - 03DF is used by:
AMD-751 Processor-to-AGP-Controller
Memory 000A0000 - 000BFFFF is used by:
AMD-751 Processor-to-AGP-Controller

Note that everything is translated from German to English so it might
not be the exact wording.

There is no such error message in Device manager's Ressource tab.

After reinstalling the driver for the monitor, doing a repair
installation from the windows CD and confirming some error messages,
everything seems to work now - I have no idea why.. )

Thanks for all hints.
