Hi all,

We recently purchased a brand new W2003 Small business server from
Dell. They created a domain from our company name, which is very long.
So we wanted to create a new Domain name to shorten it up.

I recently disjoined the DC from the old domain on a w2003 small
business server and dcpromo'd it to a new domain name, choosing new
forrest ect. When I rebooted after it successfully installed, the
computer hangs at "Applying computer settings". I waited over 30
minutes last time. The DNS was to be installed on new DC and is
pointing at itself. I can boot into safe mode and noticed in the event
logs, it is trying to referrenced the old DNS name zone.

When I dcpromo'd the original domain, I chose to delete the application
partion and the uninstall never reported back any errors.
How can I removed the old DNS zone refereence in AD? The problem is , I
can not get the system to boot into any other than safe mode WITHOUT
Networking.

Thanks for any help someone can give me.

Go here and delete the reg key with that name:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS Server\Zones
