I recently installed a new network printer, an HP4250, on our network
following HP's installation procedures. It was installed on a 2003 Server
sp1 file server. Everything seemed to go well. However, while reviewing
logs this morning I discovered that I was being hammered with DCOM error
10015 every thirty seconds from four different client machines on the
network. Looking at the client event logs showed corresponding DCOM error
10006 entries. The four clients are a mix of XP sp2 and Win2K sp4
workstations. The one thing that they have in common is that they each have
a local HP printer

I did some digging around and found some suggested sollutions. I took the
less critical machine and ran "hpbpro.exe -RegServer" and "hpbpro.exe
-Service" on it.

This seemes to have cleared up the error entries on both client side and
server side. My questions are, why did this happen in the first place and
what exactly does hpbpro.exe -RegServer and hpbpro.exe -Service do? Does
this create security issues?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.
