HELP! A co-worker's pc crashed while in this db. Now, he and I get the
following message when we try to open it: "The Microsoft Jet database engine
cannot open the file. it is already opened exclusively by another user, or
you need permission to view its data". I am the owner of the db.

I have tried and failed at:
- no file in that directory w/ an incorrect extension
- making a copy of the mdb, but the copy gives the same error message.
- using jetcomp resulted in error
- can't import or link tables from the source

What do you mean by "no file in the directory with an incorrect extension"?
Do you mean the .ldb extension? That's not an "incorrect" extension, it's a
Locking file created by Access. If you did find one, delete it.

Also, if this is a split database, then check the backend location for a
file ending in .ldb. If you find it, delete it (note: you may have to do
this from the workstation that created the lock)

If you don't find this, and the other items you indicated didn't work, you
may need to contact a data recovery service.
