Daylight savings patch

Hi folks,

Is there a DST patch, MS havent updated or issued yet?

Because, here in NZ, I'm pretty sure I'm up to date with all patches.
However, if I update the time in the taskbar with a good time server, the
time goes backwards.

(NZ's previous DST dates were):

Start date: First Sunday in Oct @ 2 am
End date: 3rd Sunday in March @ 2 am

However, our times (in NZ) have now changed to

Start date: Last Sunday in Sept @ 2 am
End date: First Sunday in April @ 3 am

As above the time goes backwards, because the dates are still the old dates
(I confirmed this with TZedit from the MS site).

I changed the dates in TZedit then rebooted. However, the same thing happens
(the time still goes back an hour)

I thought downloading / installing KB942763 and / or KB955839 would fix it,
However, both didnt (both said it had already been installed)?

So, any idea WHEN a new DST patch will be available, if both of the above
say its already installed, since theyre not working?

Thanks

I went there, it said something was downloading.

Nothing happened. Altho it only had XP with or without SP2, it said nothing
about XP SP3.

Tried that site again, it finally let me download KB955839.

Which is already installed. So, that doesnt help.

TZEdit should set it regardless of updates...

Bring up a command window and enter the command:

w32tm /tz

It will show you what it thinks is the current settings for Daylight
savings time on your computer including the dates at which DST goes in
and out of effect (Month, Week, Day-of-Week).

If this output is correct, then try entering the command:

net time

This will display the time in GMT at the server that you sync to. Make
sure this GMT time is correct. If not, your server might be off an
hour.

HTH,
John

The timestamp in your last post (Date: Wed, 25 Mar 2009 09:09:40 +1300)
suggests all is well.

NB: Your first post listed UTC +1200!

If you sync your computer clock with any/all of the other available servers,
does the behavior persist?

Is MS Office/Outlook also installed and if so, did you install the
appropriate DST patches for it, too?

NB: One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
anti-spyware applications (e.g., Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, WinPatrol, etc),
anti-virus appliations & security suites (Norton, McAfee, ESET/NOD32,
Kasperky, Trend Micro, etc.; but not Avast AFAIK), and third-party firewalls
(e.g., Zone Alarm, etc.).

Note that temporarily disabling the application(s) or rebooting into Safe
Mode may not disable the system protections.

I've only tried it with msltime1.irl.cri.nz at the mo

Since I dont think time.windows.com exists

No firewalls (besides XP's is installed). The only AV program installed is
Avast. Dont use Spybot, or any programs, that may block adding info to the
registry

Office 07 is installed, I'll have to check whether thats up to date (I'm
pretty sure I tried something the other day). It said it wasnt needed, or
something

Last night (when I used tzedit), I found that 2 of the computers here
(there's 3 here) had the wrong info on them (tzedit showed the old DST dates
/ times), and 1 had the right info (tzedit showed the right start and end
dates).

I have no idea HOW one could be different from the other 2. So, I exported
the keys for DST (from the PC that has the right start / end date), and
imported them to the other 2 that somehow had the wrong info

Thats probably why it says +13 now, (instead of +12)
