DateTimePicker validating

I am having a problem with a DateTimePicker and doing a Validating
routine.

The DateTimePicker is setup in Short format.

In my validating routine, I print both the VALUE and TEXT, just so I can
see.

When I change any of the fields, neither the text nor the value seems to
change before I get to my validate routine. It almost seems like there
is a time delay.

Any ideas??
