I am trying to set up a training matrix for my construction project and I
need to record dates of training certifications that expire over time. How
do I format/program the cell to change color to red or something similar to
alert me when the certification will expire.

Hi,

You can use conditional formatting. Say your training date is in A1.

Format|Conditional format
Formaula is
Enter the formula
=TODAY()-A1>=30
Select a colour
Click OK

This will colour the cell when A1 is 30 days earlier tha today so if your
training refresher is 6 months change 30 to 180 for example.

You can use the format painter to copy this format to other cells
