date of letter

Eacvh time I open a letter document, the date of my letter changes to the
current date. How do I stop this automatic function?

Right-click the date (which is a field) and choose Toggle Field Codes.
Change the word DATE to CREATEDATE. Right-click again and choose
Update Field.
