Date Format question

I have a database table with a date field. I built a query and then
pivot the data in access. When my users copy and paste the pivot
table to Excel spreadshee, they were trying to do a VLookup
referencing the date. However, the vLookup can't recognize the date
pasted from the access database even the two (the one pasted from the
db and the one from Excel) looked exactly the same.

I have tried changing the format of the date on Excel, but that doesnt
help. I noticed a different though, it's when i change the format of
the date pasted from the db to 'General', it will turn into numbers
like 34323, however, same thing won't happen to the date from excel.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

turn into 34323 when i changed the date format, but the one i typed
into excel would.

Let me clarify, it should be when I change the format of the date that
I typed into excel, it will turn in to number like 39227. When I
tried to change the date I copied from the access db, it did NOT
change to anything and remained the same.

Sorry for the confusion.
