I have just a quick question on database security....forgive me as I'm a
newbie.

I have a database saved in a network folder. This specific folder is
mapped as G:\ on my computer. Apparently when I went through the security
wizard.....it maps this as well to go to the G: drive and check the security
info. My problem is that the people that will be using this database (many
different physical locations) may not have this folder mapped as G:\ (could
be another letter)......or they may not have this folder mapped at all.

Is there a way around this....where I can somehow tell it somehow to check
the security in a certain file on a specific server. Basically....doing the
same thing but without referencing a specific drive letter? Otherwise I'll
have the task of mapping this drive on all these various computers.

I guess my second question (not really Access related)....is that if mapping
to G:\ is my only option....is there a way I can email some type of link to
them that will map this folder as G:\ on their computer? I understand this
might be too much of a process to explain here....but again....thought I
would ask the question as I'm pretty new to this.

I suggest you start by reading
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];207793

As I require it includes the instructions for what you want. In short I
believe you need to make sure the shortcut on their computers they use to
access your file has their path in it.

Practice on some copies to make sure you know what you are doing.

WINS could not start due to a missing or corrupt database.Restore the database using WINS Manager (or winscl.exe found in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit) and restart WINS. If WINS still does not start, begin with a fresh copy of the database. =?Utf-8?B?V2hvcHJvZmVzc29y?= Microsoft Windows 2000 0 9th Dec 2003 10:41 PM
