I am going around and around with the "Database Interface Wizard" from
FrontPage 2002. All I want to do is either try to use the Northwind
database or generate a new db with the 3 .asp pages/forms it is supposed to
create.

I keep getting a complaint that "FrontPage" then a file path to where-ever I
am trying to create it, "is not responding". The bottom of the screen says
it is trying to create the first of the forms: results_page.asp

I am running a Windows2000/IIS/Fat32 workstation. Asp pages will publish
from the server using //localhost/file-path/file-name.asp

I have "published" the website onto the physical server as well as trying
"virtual directories." I have tried a very specific knowledge-base article
on how to use the DB Int. Wizard.

The only thing I haven't managed to do is some how "open a web" using
//localhost/file-path

I can't figure out how to try that. If it was a URL on a remote machine I
might be able to, but I am going around trying to do this on my workstation.
Any ideas?

Can you open the http://localhost using File Menu | Open Web in FP?

In order to open http://localhost/file-path/ in FP, file-path must be a subweb.

Are you running Norton or any firewall application the might be blocking port 80 or Norton blocking
scripts?

Thank you for the excellent question. But I guess I may not "understand"
your first question. When I click on the menu/File/openweb, I get a
standard open a file popup window. I don't get a box where I can type in
"//localhost/website" or anything I can identify as being the
equivalent..... what am I missing? (boy do I feel ignorant!).

not running Frontpage Server Extensions 2002, I was running FPSE 2000.
When I tried: http://localhost/bcccv3 I got a message complaining that I
didn't appear to be running the FPServer Extensions.
2) When I downloaded and installed FPSE2002, it complained about not having
NTFS installed, so I had to convert the OS part where the
IIS/Inet.../webroot folder lives. And then "extended" the FPSE to the
default website.

So I just logged onto the local host via frontpage, created a 1 page subweb
and successfully ran the Database Interface Wizard.....

(I can't believe I had to trip all over myself like that)

The FP2000 shouldn't have mattered, as they are fully supported.
