I have a range that I have done a Data / Validate to a list but the arrown to
do the drop down does not pop up when you select the cell. I have done the
validate on another sheet and it works fine. Is there a control on a
worksheet to not show that?

Thanks, that realy helped. Turned out I had to repair the file as it was
somehow corrupted but not enough to tell me. How rude.
