Data transfer device

I am simply trying to transfer data files from one
computer to another. Computer A is running Windows XP
home edition and computer B is running Windows 98 SE. I
have tried a cable that purports to be able to do this,
but it resulted in many blue screen lock-ups. I called
the supplier of the cable assembly and they offered no
help. Does anyone know of a USB type cable connection
that will allow this between 2 such computers?
