Short history: computer connected to internet and given
Windows Update for first time in about a year and a
half. During installation, computer hung. Once
rebooted, would not start in safe mode, last known good
config, or any way. I used my HP recovery disks to do
a "non destructive restore" It said it would not erase
anything. Once loaded, it looks like when I first
recieved from HP.

My question is this: How can I recover data that was
there? The files I care about most were in, or a sub-
folder of, "My Documents"

Any help would be appreciated.

Mark;
Here are a few things to try:
1. Open My Computer
Click Tools tab
Click Folder Options
Click View tab
Check "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide extensions..."
Uncheck "Hide protected..."
Search for the files by name (Start/Search)

2. Contact HP for assistance (probably unable to help)

3. Try something here:
