Access Denied

My computers CPU and mother board burned and I’m trying to save all my data,
files and setting from my hard drive. I bought an enclosure to be able to
view my hard drive files and be able to copy them onto my new laptop.
Unfortunately, I can only view certain files except mine. When I click on my
profile from documents and settings it says “Access Denied.” I know that I
did not have a password to log on. I do remember having my files be private.
I was wondering if there is anyway to get around that. I have tried several
things to fix my old computer just so that I can recover my data and
settings. Nothing worked. Can someone please help…!!!

Since you can see the files, recovery is easy. You just need to take
ownership of the files.

You're very welcome. Now do yourself a favor and put a backup strategy
into place and use it. Because Stuff Happens. ;-)

Hi, Malke...!!!
I just received my old computer back from Fry’s. Everything seems to be
working except I feel that it has slowed down and some of the programs are
not working properly like windows defender. I have tried to uninstall and
reinstall them, but I get an access denied message. Since the motherboard and
CPU were replaced I probably need to take ownership again to fix this
problem. Since my computer is running Microsoft XP Home Edition 2002 Service
Pack 2 I need to start my computer in safe mode like in the instructions you
previously provided to add the security tab. When I restart/ shutdown my
computer I repeatedly press F8 so that my computer can start in safe mode,
but have been unsuccessful. I have also tried bypassing the safe mode by
installing SCESP4A.EXE and SCESP4I.EXE, which always times out before it
could finish downloading. I was hoping you could help me again and show my
another way if there is any.
I was also thinking that it might just be better to reformat my hard drive,
which was recommended. The only thing that has been stopping me from
reformatting my hard drive is that I have a stored password on my computer
that I have forgotten. I was hoping you can show me where I can find that
stored passwords on my computer so that I don‘t loose access? It is stored on
an Internet explorer site.

Please HELP...!!!
