hello all,

I come to you because i'm looking for some data processing (along with
data analysis) tools. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of rows
of data. LOTS!! I've used Brio, and nothing...it is not capable!

please any suggestions?

thanks!

What are you trying to do with the data (we may not share the same meaning
for "data processing/data analysis")?

What kind of equipment are you running on?

100,000's of rows of data is a bit vague -- and it isn't clear if your
question is more about where you can store the data, or how you can analyze
it.

More information, please...

Jeff-

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm sorry if i cant get too detailed...let me start with the
kind/amount of data we are dealing with. We have over 1,300 different
locations, over 20 regions, over 10 districtions, with over 30
products, which can have over 40 accessories each. each product has
multiple has at least 20-25 model numbers. We are also dealing with at
least three years of data...by quarters and months. I could go on and
on about the amounts of data that we have...

second, we are having a difficult time presenting that data in a
presentable manner (sorry for the lack of vocab). If you are familiar
with Hyperion Brio Dashboard Builder, the software allows you to care
charts, queries, tables, pies, etc. with the capbilities of filtering
wanted and unwanted data criteria. We are thinking about Brio, but it
can not handle the amount of data. Its process time for filters/limits
is extremely unexceptable.

i'm not a hardware person. So equipment = serves and desk tops for each
employee. We have the ability to upgrade if benfit > cost.

what are we going to do with the data: Ideally, we'd like to be able to
create some kind of "dashboards" with filtering capabilities.

is that enough detail? please let me know if you need more info...

I appreciate your time...

thanks!

Have you done some searching via something like Google.com to look for
presentation/analysis software?

Trying to do what you're describing using Access will take some serious
effort. You can do simple things simply in Access, but the more complex
tasks take some learning and work.

If Brio's reporting capabilities aren't what you need, what about other
reporting tools?

Jeff,

I've been trying to find other presentation/analysis software/tools,
but the reason i posted the question in the group is because i wanted
to get a reading from the end users (you and others on this board).
Because if I was to talk with the company of a software program, they
are going to tell me what I want to hear...to make that sale...you
know?

Other reporting tools...that is exactly what I'm looking for. But I am
not sure where to start. I've done the Google searches...but nothing
significant pops up...you know? That is why I'm asking for advice on
here...what kind of reporting software do you use...or suggest?

any and all help is appreciated...thank you!

Personal observation, no endorsement intended...

I end up using Excel and Visio to depict statistical analyses in more
"consumer-friendly" formats.
