data markers in xy scatter plots

I am looking to be able to easily create an XY scatter
plot where the points can be identified in to separate
series by a catagorical variable in a third column.

I know I can create a second set of data using a vlookup function, but I have over 100 plots to do, each with hundereds of points.
...is there any easy way to do this?
