data file management

For the purpose of creating a separate contact folder, I created a new data
file, and set the original file as the default. I see them both in data file
managment, and although I am attempting to use only one, when I open the
folder, I see that the modifcation dates remain the same on both. When a
reminder displays, there are two notifications. It appears that both files
are open. Can you tell me how to open and close files so that I can switch
back and forth?
Thank you

What happens if you click the 'X Remove' button in data file management?
This will not delete it from the hard drive, only remove it from the
profile.

I removed one of the one of the files from the profile. What is the process
to stop using the current (default) file and opening a different file?

Thank you

add a pst to the profile, set it as default and remove the other one.
