I'm trying to start Outlook 2003 for the first time. I am getting an error
message as described here (http://imagebin.org/32606). When I tried to do
what the first picture says, I'm getting another error message
(http://imagebin.org/32607). What generally needs to be done in order to
solve this problem so that I can use Outlook?

It looks like Outlook has already been tried to configured previously and
was left with an improperly configured mail profile.
At this point, simply remove this mail profile and start Outlook again.
You'll then be prompted to configure Outlook.

To remove a mail profile go to;
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

For additional info see;

After following your suggestion on making a new profile as well as the
instructions on the link, I'm getting another error message as described here
(http://imagebin.org/32608). Would reinstalling Microsoft Office help?

At what point did you get this error?
Did Outlook start directly after creating the new mail profile without
changing anything else?

Remove the mail profile again while Outlook is closed an then restart your
computer. Once started, start Outlook again. It will guide your through the
initial startup and should start Outlook correctly for the first time.

As it is very likely to be a configuration issue, reinstalling probably
won't help you.

Ok, it's a good time to try and do a repair on Office then.
If it still doesn't work, try starting Windows itself in Safe Mode with
network support and see if Outlook launches then.
