Hi All,
My outlook 2007 froze 3 days ago and i had to end the program. The next
time I opened it, it asked me if I wanted to open outlook in safe mode? I did
and no problems were found.
Now when i open Outlook 2007 I get the following message.
"Data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being
checked for problems.", Now an icon of two gears ( I think) has appeared in
the lower right hand corner for three days now.
I have closed it and rebooted and ran avirus scan, nothing helps.
Can someone tell me a fix for this, if there is one.
I am using outlook 2007 with my Hotmail account with windows XP home.
thank you
bobby

Just leave Outlook open until they disappear. If you close it before that,
Outlook will start the checking procedure from the beginning the next time
you start Outlook. You can also do a manual check by using scanpst.exe.

I have had the same issue where the Data File Check (gear icon in the bottom
right corner) has been running for over 24 hours. How long do I let it go
before trying another fix? And, what's my next best course of action? (I've
gotten the start in safe mode message, followed by "Archived folders didn't
close properly message") Many thanks!

Hi MOJO,
The fix that roady suggested worked, leaving outlook open.
I left outlook open until it fixed itself, it took 24 hours.
remember, when you close outlook, and then reopen it, it starts all over
again, so do not close outlook.
