data file "Archive Folder" not closed properly. How to close?

MSO closes everytime I delete an e-mail message. A window comes up saying
MSO has encountered a problem and needs to close. Send error report. (which
I do). I also get the message " data file 'Archive Folder' was not closed
properly. File is being checked for problems". i'm wondering if there's
some connection between these two messages and what can I do about one or the
other, or both?
