Data Execution Prevention Problems

Recently the amount of programs being stopped by DEP has increased to the
point that I just manually set it to "AlwaysOff". I tried the Opt Out
option, compiling a list of programs that I did not want DEP to cover, but
that did not solve the problem. I am not very computer saavy so I am curious
how vulnerable setting it to "Always Off" will leave my system. This is my
home PC, DELL Dimension E521/AMD 2004Mhz processor/3GB RAM/ WinXP SVC PK 2.
Thanks, John
