I have Office 2003 Professional and recently, Powerpoint is taking forever to
start and often crashes. It keeps telling me that the Data Assitant was not
installed properly, but have tried repair, uninstall/reinstall, all to no
avail? Any advise?

Try uninstalling the Data Assistant. I can't tell you how to do that because MS
has removed it from their download pages ... which in itself is kinda
suspicious, don't you think?

Steve:
Thnaks for response. I acidently found answer to uninstall. There is no
uninstall that I am aware of, but if you go to Program Files, Common Files,
Microsoft Shared Files, you will find a folder there called Data Assistant.
I deleted it and Powerpoint works fine now and know of no adverse reactions
anywhere else as yet.

Just renaming/deleting the "DataAssistant.ppa" file in that folder should
also do the trick...(seems to work for me)

This isn't the exact error I was seeing, but "Data Assistant" was causing the
problem I was having also (i.e. PP would crash on startup).

FWIW, You can uninstall "Microsoft Data Assistant 1.0" from the "Add/Remove
Programs" GUI.
