A lot of my photos in MY Pictures have changed from the regular JPEG and BMP
File to TIFF and DAT File. I don't know why. I am unable to view anything
under this format. Is there some setting I don't know about? Also my second
questions is how do I change my default settings on my photo software
programs to work with in MY Pictures. I have 3 photo software programs on my
computer. HP Image Zone. Kodak Easyshare and Goggle Picasa.
Thanks a Lot,
Henery Ray Ray

Try using Irfan View (Downloadable freeware) It can view and convert almost
anything.
You may need to play around with changing the file types, or even removing
the type.

What...exactly...are you expecting the photo programs to do?

and I also have that problem with DAT and TIFF image that do not work. I am
trying to find out how to change a default setting on any of my 3 phot
programs I now have on my computer. Also I still want to know if there is any
way to change those image file from DAT and TIFF back to JPEG File.

Thanks a Lot,
Henery Ray Ray

FWIW...the issues you are experiencing
probably were caused by software that you
installed. Doing a System Restore to a time
before you installed it may clear up the issue.

I'm still unsure what your exact request is but
maybe the following info will be useful:

Have a look at this article:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

And the following links may be useful:

Maybe you could rename the .dat files to .jpg.
The .tif files can be opened in an editing program
and saved in a different format....file / save as.

You are using Kodak Easy Share Software. The only TIFF files I have, were
created by using "Creative Projects" from Kodak EashyShare software. My TIFF
pictures are always found in the folder "My Greeting Cards". Those TIFF
files can be seen by using Kodak EasyShre Software.

DAT file, no answer, sorry.

I hope that helps.

Serge

If it is possible to convert those pics back into a jpeg. I know that
Photoshop Elements would be able do it. If not, then at least it could open
and edit them until you find a solution for them. Your jpeg file uses
compression as a means to save time and space without degrading the photo too
much. While a photo saved in a tiff format can be saved without compression,
and still preserve its original high quality image resolution. I'm thinking
that since you have a few different photo-imaging programs loaded into your
computer, that one of them might be conflicting with the others. Thus
causing the problem within the default settings of your My Pictures folder.
You can try going into control panel to Add/Remove programs and removing each
one until you find the culprit. Good luck.
