      5th Oct 2007
my dat files have a default listing in my explorer as a video cd file but I
have it open it notepad but how and where in the registry do I change it to
what is suppose to be like a text file or something

Ted,

..DAT files can be anything (text, video or other type.) By default, .DAT file types are not associated in Windows.

File Extension .DAT Details:
http://filext.com/file-extension/dat
