Dark-Patch on scanned-image in WordPerfect 10 and 11

When I scan an image into WordPerfect 10 and WordPerfect 11, on
Windows XP 32-bit, the scanned image is not proper, in that, the image
contains a solid-black-patch on its top-left corner.

Can anyone provide ideas about what must be going on inside?

Surprisingly, scanning works absolutely fine if I use the WordPerfect
Office X3 - Build No: 13.0.0.406.

Have you done these "test" while the scanner is on the same PC?

Have you tried to scan straight into some other application and not
WordPerfect?
