Dangers of second-hand PC market

Last nights BBC real story higlighted how data can be taken from hard drives when you get rid of them and used for ID fraud against you. And that reformatting does not get rid of the data.

I watched that show, didnt thhink that your computer that you leave at the dump would end up in lagos nigeria ( we all know what happens there *419*)

hmm does that mean that this puter i have bought off ebay could contain stuff that i will be in trouble for ?

Open up the hard drive & hit it with a large heavy hammer.
Or turn it over and hit the underside circuit board, again with a large heavy hammer.
The more bits that break off the better.
