Donna B. posted yesterday that the "manual daily" MPAS-FE contained not only
definitions which had not yet been "pushed out" but also a new "engine"
version.

I'm not sure I like the idea of MS releasing a Full Engine Update for
"manual" updates independently of the update "pushed" out thru AU/WU on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This seems to imply a scenario where we will be discussing situations or
problems where people have different version numbers for Definitions AND
Engines.

Currently I have the latest version of the Engine and Definitions as of
Thursday (auto update or delta link)

"A" has the "current version" of the Defs as of "Friday" by doing a manual
update and a newer version of the Defs but has the same Engine as me.

"B" has updated Manually on Saturday when the Manual update has not only
still newer Defs but also a New Engine version.

So,

I have Engine "1001" and defs "1501"
"B" has Engine "1001" and defs "1502"
"C" has Engine "1002" and defs "1503"

I can see confusion here.

Also, if I Manually download the "Full w/ New Engine" on Saturday but not
the "Full w/ Just New Defs" on Sun and Mon will AU/WU on Tues still offer me
an "MPas-Delta" when the "Full w/ New Engine" is pushed out by MS using AU/WU?

I will be confused.
(not that that is anything new ]

?:-)

This only proves that Ms needs to have a policy of updates. Daily
updates should include only definition files while weekly updates, say
on Fridays, should include definitions as well as engine updates.

If I am not mistaken, MS been doing this "engine" update together with
definition update before thru "pushed".

I doubt you will receive the pushed defs update and engine if you already
have the latest engine and definitions because that's what I noticed here
myself. In one of my system that follows the 'manual, daily defs', AU/WU
don't offer me the defs update which is expected because I already have the
current defs. It will offer only thru AU/WU if I stop following the 'manual,
daily defs' and if the installed 'defs' is older.

Hope this helps :-)

recent thant the version shown on the latest release version (1.1.1592.0)
shown on
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...ckversion.mspx. I checked both release versions on 6/18/07 at 10 am EDT.

Yes, you are using the current Program version of Windows
Defender(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
The said link you've provided has old info and has not been revised by MS.
