The d4kb3a4 service is responsible for the hangs, freezes and sound looping
many of us have been experienceing in online BF2 games. After 3 or 4
instances, Punkbuster will kick you from the server.
Windows events viewer will show that MS Windows defender is perceiving PB as
a threat and blocking it.
Punkbuster is an embedded anti-cheat program that cannot be disabled without
severely restricting the types of servers BF2 can be played on.
BF2 players unite! Send requests that this legitimate service be added to
the accepted programs, since adding BF2 to the accepted list will not fix it,
and it is impossible to add the Punkbuster in-game service, as it is a part
of BF2, custom-designed for working within BF2.
EA is the world's largest PC game publisher, so let's try to get them on
board with supporting us and bringing in their considerable clout to get
Microsoft's attention.
See the thread I will have at Planet Battlefield forums, and get on board!

I've had the same problem, disabling the auto protect seems to be a work
around but thats a pain each time you play.
