D-Link Router and Wifi internet problems

2 Days ago I got wifi internet installed, Dumping my dialup and satellite
download. Since I had just bought a router that I don't know how to use to
connect my wife's computer to mine and a wireless card for both computers,
the tech connected the wifi to my D-Link DI-524 router. No wireless card in
my computer.

He connected a cable from the wifi antenna to my router and the router to my
computer. At first it didn't work and he said I know what the problem is and
he typed away too fast for me to see accessing the router and up came the
internet. They left.
Everything was ok until I put in a new mother board and reset the router.
(don't ask).
Now I cant get it to work through the router.

I wrote down the static IP address, subnet address and default gateway,
preferred and alternate addresses.

If I type those into my local area connection tc/ip on the computer and plug
the wifi antenna into my computer (it uses the Ethernet port) I can get on
the internet.

I read the router manual and tried everything but cant get on the internet
through the router. I cant get in touch with the installer and tech support
doesn't do routers.

Can somebody help?

Thank you

I found the problem. It is an undocumented problem. My wireless provider is
802.11b and the router is an 802.11g. However it does NOT automatically
throttle back. I had to go into the router and misc. and set the speed to
10mbs then it worked. The guy that set me up said he's had this problem
before with this router.

Now that is solved maybe one of you guys can help me sharing files from my
two computers with this setup?

The wife's computer can now receive the internet through the wireless card,
however ALL attempts to get her computer to talk to mine (share files or
mine hers) have been in vain. A couple of years ago I had them talking with
a cat cable and XP Pro on both, but one time after I reinstalled XP I
couldn't get them to work again. The wizard doesn't work on her computer
because of the wireless software.

Thank you both

1. see page 15 DI-524 manual. Home/WAN/Static IP address. Configure static
IP, subnet, gateway address and DNS servers using the information you have.

2. see page 18. LAN/Home/DHCP. Enabled/192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.
Defaults are probably fine.

3. Change your network card setting (local area connection) on your PC to
use DHCP. Plug into router and everything should work.

P.S. Don't use the wizard as it does basically nothing of use.

Although my network isn't wireless, I want to thank you for this link.

It helped me solve my problem.
