i'm a self confessed novice computer user...
my computer's been fine until the last few days when i'll put a disc into
drive d and the computer won't register that there is a disc in there. i've
tried it with all sorts of cd's including one's i know work. i can hear the
drive working when a cd goes in but it's like the computer won't recognize
it. can you help me pLEASE!?! do i need to reinstall the driver? how do i do
it etc?

get a cd cleaner. (a cd with very small brushes on it) to clean the laser
inside the cd drive. failing that maybe the cd drive is finished,
