I am trying to downlaod a CD program and my computer is not recognizing my D
Drive. Anyone know why or how I can get it working. The A drive is being
read. help!

Did the drive ever work? If so, what changed? You will need to give more
information about your computer for focused troubleshooting. Is this an
upgrade from an older operating system? In the meantime, here are some
troubleshooting steps to take, making one change at a time and testing
after each change:

1. Is the drive being seen in the BIOS? If not, this is definitely a
hardware problem and not software (Windows).

2. If the drive is being seen in the BIOS, try the cdgone patch from Jim
Eshelman:

3. If the drive is not being seen in the BIOS, with the computer
unplugged open the case and reseat all connectors to the drive. If that
doesn't help, see #4.

4. Swap out the ribbon cable for a known-working one. If that doesn't
help, replace the drive.

That should give you something to work with. If you need more help, post
back with more information and the results of your troubleshooting.

D:\ Drive I presume is your CD-ROM. Unfortunately you did not give us the error that It generates. See the link below .

One of many possibilities. Did you remove any CD burning software lately

I am having a similar problem on my housemates computer. Of course when
anything goes wrong who do they call....
Anyway, they bought an emachine from a pawn shop which a friend owns down
in Reno. Brought it home, set it up, everything has worked from day one. At
least I had a base. They came to me with cookies and pleas that the computer
CD drive was not working. So, I set to work. I cleaned up and defraged the C
drive. Removed two viruses. Installed a virus protection software, updated
Windows XP, looked all over the computer hardware profiles only to have the
thing tell me everytime that "this device is working properly". Was about to
attempt a "code 39" filter deletion but I am not getting the messages to
warrant that maneuver. All that is happening is...nothing. Put in a CD of any
kind and nothing happens. The D drive just says, "D:/" No whirring, no
spinning, no recognition of any kind. Although when I did attempt the first
time (maybe should try it again) the drive did recognize that I put in a
CD-ROM disk. That little icon appeared under the D:/ drive in "my computer".
Any thoughts?
