To cut to the chase...
I am need of a patch so that I can install MSN 6 on my system.
I am running CyrixInstead, but I am getting that error message stating
that I need to be running pentium.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I promise you can have my first born....hee hee

Complain to Microsoft. Several percent of desktops still sit on Cyrix
chips, it is in their interests to have MSN Messenger be able to be
installed on them. The only reason why the installer isn't letting you
install would be sloppy CPUID coding that needs to be fixed up.

I still don't get it why Windows has such problems running on a Cyrix
CPU. I have Debian running on a Cyrix 300+ system as a fileserver,
router, mailserver, firewall, etc... this little system is running for
over 1.5 years now, without a glitch.

Even a plain Win98 install isn't that obvious on this type of
hardware...

Try this page:

http://www.paradicesoftware.com/spec...idtroubles.htm

The util at the bottom of the page should enable the CPUID instruction
for your processor. That should do the trick for all but the
sloppiest of programming.

Thanks to all who answered. I spoke to Johnathan, so to speak,
before, and he was stymied also.
I am contacting MSN to bitch about the whole Cyrix incompatibility
issue too......bloody nazis.

Try www.trillian.cc or gaim.sourceforge.net for a long term patch to
the MSN problem

L.Angel: I'm looking for web design work.
If you need basic to med complexity webpages at affordable rates, email me
Standard HTML, SHTML, MySQL + PHP or ASP, Javascript.
If you really want, FrontPage & DreamWeaver too.
But keep in mind you pay extra bandwidth for their bloated code
