I suppose if I knew that I was subject to a raid by someone scuzzy I'd
have trouble going to sleep... but this doesn't seem like it should be
such a problem!

I'm running WindowsXP, all service packs, up to date with Windows
Update. I just tried to set up my machine to hibernate (to save power
and cut heat load in the house); when it tries to hibernate, I get an
error message

I do not have a RAID or a SCSI drive; the only SCSI related hardware
is an older Microtek parallel-port scanner which simulates SCSI and
has its own driver. The driver getting the complaint is SMPLSCSI.SYS;
the properties are confusing, since in the Properties window it shows

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Date: 7/1/2001
Driver Version: 5.1.2600.1106
Driver Signature: Microsoft Publisher

but when I go to Driver Details it shows

Provider: OnSpec Electronics Inc.
Version: 2.73
Signature: not digitally signed


So: Do I need this device installed at all? If so, how can I obtain an
updated driver? Would a RAID driver be expected to interfere with
hibernation?

Any info would be appreciated!

I would imagine this would break your scanner, but wait happens when you
uninstall the driver?

You're exactly correct: removing the driver lets the computer
hibernate, but the scanner cannot be found. I don't use the scanner
often - maybe I'll just unhook it, and hook it up and let XP do its
"new hardware" game when I do need it. :-{(

Or maybe spring for a new USB port scanner...
