I've got XP Pro running on a 4 yo Targa Notebook (512M / 40G drive). All of
a sudden, background colours have changed to CYAN without me having changed
anything. Many icons on the desktop, the windows login screen, the bgcolor
in Outlook and Outlook Exresss, Default background colors IE, Firefox...
just about everything. Can't think of any way to change it. I'm stuck. Any
ideas, please? The screens look awful

Regards

Hi Richard,

Right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties. From the Appearance tab, click Advanced. In the "Item" drop-down listing, select "Window". In the color picker box in the right, choose White.

Your video chip may have failed. If changing Display settings to Classic
or XP (whichever they are not) does nothing, a good way to determine if
this is hardware or software is to boot with a rescue cd such as Knoppix
or a Bart's PE. If the same problem occurs with the rescue cd, then you
know for sure the issue is with hardware. In that case, you would need
to replace the motherboard and would have to check with the laptop
mftr.'s tech support.

Re-calibrate the monitor. The gamma may have a problem.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Problems described go away when I
connect to a 17" CRT monitor. Changing the "Window appearance" partially
worked on the Notebook. The cyan background colours went away for the
browsers and newsreaders and so on, but persist for the icons, mouse pointer
and borders. Tried the Gamma settings, with little luck. Maybe the LCD is
damaged. Will have it checked out

Thanks

RJ
