I would like to send a PowerPoint template to several presenters and wonder
if I can customize the placeholder titles such as "click to add title." For
example, if I would like all presenters to input their month sales figures
for April, can I have the placeholder read "click to add April sales figures"
instead of "click to add title"?

In PPT 2007, you can do this. In previous versions, you can't.

I have gone out and purchased Power Point 2007 upgrade and cannot figure out
how to edit the placeholder "dummy" or prompt text. Can you walk me through
it?

Oh, no, I should have given you more information. Even if you add prompt
text in 2007, it won't show up when you "backsave" as a 97-2003 format file.

But if your users are using PPT 2007, they'll be able to see the custom
prompt text. To add it, in PPT 2007, go to View | Slide Master. The larger
thumbnail is the slide master, and the smaller ones are the individual slide
layouts. You'll want to just select one of the placeholders on the
individual slide layouts and type the prompt text you want. Many of the
attributes you apply to a slide master trickle down to the idividual
layouts, but that's not the case for promt text: you must add it to each
placeholder on each layout.

You can also add your own placeholders by going to Insert | Placeholder. You
cannot actually add placeholders to the slide master, but you can add them
to individual slide layouts.
