I have tried everything to change the home city displayed on IE8 running
WindowsXP. I have updated my profile and my passport but it still displays a
city that I am not from and that is really annoying. Can somebody out there
tell me something I am not doing? Or can someone tell me how to do this??
Thank you

try going to msn.com and signing in
there you can enter the zip and maybe
get ie to know where you are from.

also, don't delete your cookies as they
also hold the information you enter
on webpages, like your zip code.

I assume you can change the city by clicking on "My Profile" or something
similar

On some web pages, where there is a "current weather conditions" graphics
in the corner of the screen, that is based on a reverse translation of
your public IP address.

Depending on the networking equipment, the accuracy of the IP registration
for that equipment, the reverse lookup will either be very accurate...
or very wrong.

For example, at the moment, one web based geolocator site, gives the
wrong city based on my IP address. A simpler reverse lookup website
got the city correct.

If I take the IP address 66.237.94.82 from your message header and work with
it, my best guess is, you are close to

Rocklin Office
Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
4120 Citrus Ave, Rocklin CA 95677

based on rk.wavecable.com as the reverse lookup. The "rk" could
stand for Rocklin. But these methods aren't foolproof, and the
Weather Channel is more likely to conclude you're in Reston
Virginia (where the company owning that company has a head office).

Basically, it means a method based on reverse translation of an
IP address, isn't a reliable method. You can register your Passport
account all you want, it won't help that particular method. The
method is broken.

The reason more complex methods would be frowned upon, is because
they would violate your privacy. Only big evil companies like
Google can afford to do that :-) Or the government (winks at
the guy watching these packets fly by...)
