Hi Lampie,
What Rick meant is that the "Customize" tab is not available in the drive
properties (and in the special folders' property sheet). Yes, it's by
design.
If the Task pane shows inappropriate items for the drive, then it's a
problem with the FolderType registry value. When you open a folder or drive
for the first time, the shell sniffs the folder contents automatically and
assigns an appropriate template (FolderType) for the folder.
If incorrect template is assigned for a drive/special folder, you may try
clearing the "Bags" registry key, and have the system rebuild it
automatically.
Another option is to locate the appropriate Bag # for the drive/special
folder and reset the "FolderType" value manually. To do so, follow Keith
Miller's article here:
Common Tasks Don't Match Folder Type
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_common_tasks.htm
That was originally written for Windows XP systems, but the steps can be
adapted for Windows Vista. Note that the "Bags" registry key location varies
in Vista.

I don't think this is by design, as I do not have the problem on my laptop.
And no, sorry, there is no "autorun.inf" in the root. Any other
suggestiuons maybe?
