When I go to Customize Outlook Today, I change to the desired format and save
changes. When I leave the Outlook today screen and come back it goes back to
the way it was originally.

I also do not show anything under the pull down menu on the save changes
screen (for the Styles).

Can anyone explain why this happens? Thanks.

For what version of Outlook?

If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook and/or does script
scanning disable this integration and try again.

My IT guy was looking at this as well and he has the same setup as me but I
have internet explorer 7 and he has the earlier version. The same virus
scanner is on both computers but his shows it and mine doesn't.

He tends to think that something is blocking it within the explorer.
