Is there a way to customize Outllook 2007 so that it automatically advances
to the next message when you are reviewing messages?

Reviewing in which way?
Do you mean the option what happens after you move/delete an open item?
Tools-> Options-> E-Mail Options...

Use the reading pane and navigate through the messages with the arrow key.
