I am running Vista SP1. I have created my own pointer set and saved it, but
every time I start my computer it reverts to the standard Aero set. If I go
into the pointer settings my custom set shows as the current set. When I
click OK the set is activated - but only for this session. Any one else had
this problem, and found a solution?

The Aero settings are fixed. You would need to use Classic, or one of the
Aero imitations, like Window Blinds
