Custom Shell Design Question

The benefit of a custom shell is that your program will launch and it's all the customer can have access to.

The downfall is that no system maintainance (ie. updating drivers) can be done on the image once it's deployed since explorer.exe is no longer present.

Any solutions? Suggestions?
