custom print form for Epson FX-1170 Dot matrix printer

Hi Folks,

I'm pretty sure I've done the proper song and dance for setting up a custom
print form in Windows 2000 for our Epson FX-1170. However, when print
previewing or printing, the page just isn't wide enough to accomodate the
printout.

Our carbon copy forms are about 12 inches wide by 8 inches long. We're
using custom-designed software that works just fine under Windows 98 with
Epson's driver.

An Epson tech support rep mentioned that the custom forms should be set up
while no printers are actually selected and also that any custom form
outside the printer's parameters won't be listed. As I am actually able to
select my custom paper size, this isn't the issue.

Is there a trick I don't know or is there another compatible dot matrix
driver out there with a better interface for selecting page size? I'd hate
to have to downgrade the workstation back to Windows 98.

Have sussed that the problem is limited to some specially written
software for us. I can use the custom forms fine in MS Word, but not
our special invoicing software.

Why this works with Win98 and not Win2000, I don't know.

Since I'm setting up the forms right, I think my only recourse now is
to find a good third party printer driver (or virtual printer driver).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried asking the folks that wrote your "specially written
software" to fix it?

Perhaps the folks in microsoft.public.win2000.printing could help you go
through your printer setup. If you're using a DOS-based program (like a lot
of custom-written programs that companies are still holding on to) then the
setup for capturing the DOS port is different in 2000 then in Win9x.

Folks,

Ironically, the inventory software we use is written in FoxPro .... the
first version to use a Windows interface. So it's oooold, but not DOS old.
Do you still think capturing a DOS port would work?

As for the suggestion of having software rewritten... I only wish it was
that easy. It's a cost that would never fly with the boss when the solution
is "free" in using a Win98 box.
