Custom Multilevel List in Multiple documents

Is it possible to create a custom, multilevel list and have it availbel to
use in multiple word documents?
To explain a little better, I have specifications that were written in
several different versions (including Word Perfect). I have been tasked with
making them all the same and I don't want to have to retype them, or
re-define the multilevel list with each new one.
Is this possible? And if so, how?
Thank you!

Bridgegirl,

You can create a template with the styles/outline numbering you want in
there (based on CSI MasterFormat?) then bring those styles into your docs and
start applying.

I have a master spec template that I can then attach to the existing word
file and either bring in all styles and apply or I may start a new section
and bring existing file in.

What I found to be easier was reformat old sections by pulling styles in,
then starting a new section so margins, styles, etc. were consistent across
all of them, then bring in info from previously reformatted sections.

Create the list(s) in a template document. Then create documents based on
the template and use Insert | File (or Insert tab | Object | Text from File
if you are using Word 2007) to bring in the existing documents.

Applying numbering to text will be a manual task, unless you have applied
paragraph styles consistently and you are associating those styles with your
numbered list.

I do this on a daily basis and have for 12 years. We are a company of engineers that use specifications on a daily basis. We are currently using MS Word 2007 as well. If you did not get the answer you were looking for, please feel free to contact me at my personal email (E-Mail Removed) and I'd be happy to help you. This can be very confusing when first getting started.
