Custom interface for Table ammendments

I am getting really annoyed at the amount of time it takes to adjust text
field sizes etc due to the Values being on a tabbed dialog at the bottom of
the screen - have resorted to SQL update batches coding by hand but surely
someone has rewritten the interface in a columner fashion? If not I guess I
will build my own but no point in re-inventing the wheel
