i am using a special font for my web page, and it works on my computer, but after I apply it online, it doesn't show up on other's computers, it just defaults to times roman. I figure because they don't have this font installed? how can i allow them to view my font? turn it into a jpeg?
thanks,
Ian

ps. also, my hit counter never goes past 1. any suggestions why?

You can offer the font as a download (you might have to check on legalities
there, some people sell fonts and if it's one of those, you may have
issues), if it's OK with the font creator, you can also create an automatic
download (I would not do this, I hate sites that try to download stuff
without me asking them) or you can create images from all of the text using
that font, but that is a whole other issue. Do you use this font everywhere
or is just like a site title banner or something similar?

Hi,

Yep making a graphic is one way to accomplish it. Another is with WEFT embedding.

But no one looking at your page will want to download the font. Learn how to
make gifs of images of the text bits that you need (never for long sentences
and paragraphs). Use your graphics program to make these. I've found the
Fireworks is great for 'font gifs'.

yes turn it into a jpeg, or use a font that everyone would have.

regarding your hit counter - does your host allow this feature to work? the
server extensions must be installed.

IMHO
the WEFT is a very cool and FREE tool. I've used it several times with good
results (sort of). I've tried viewing pages utilizing it on a number of
different computers and haven't been prompted about downloading anything.
it just all the sudden changes the fonts on the screen. (that's how I know I
did it right) the weft is a funny tool and it's not as easy to get it to
work as one might think. if you utilize it on different sites it seems you
must tell it the root domain you want it to function from or it won't work.
(I guess I should read the docs on it but I don't use it all that much.)

And, WEFT requires the visitor to grant permission to download the font.
Reckon how many do?

WEFT only works in IE browsers, and many people have reported it's often
quite quirky.

I don't even allow it to ask me. I keep it turned off.

I disagree. WEFT3 is a workable solution. It does require that read the documentation and set it up correctly. I've seen a lot that
have not been.

I've never been asked any questions on a page I've applied it to. I've
visited them through a number of different computers (all of fairly close
specifications though), and never been asked. it's just times new roman
than bang: Kristen ITC

It's not like something I'd use for a "normal" site. I use it only for
things like invitations and announcements where I'm fairly certain of the
os/browser.

IMHO I'd rather take the shot with it then have to type it up in the image
program. ;-)
