The only thing that I can think is that maybe they are copying data
out of the book to a new book. Peter is quite right in that the
palette is saved with the book, but if you paste to a new file the
cells only take the colour index values, not the colours themselves.
If you have both books open at the same time, you can copy the palette
from one to the other using the "copy colors from" option in the
options dialog.
