Custom Categories shuffled! What give??

I just opened my navigation bar to find that some, but not all, items that
had previously (and long-standedly) resided under custom categories had been
relocated to the "unassigned" category. Everything seems to still be there,
just in the wrong place. Anyone know what would cause something like this??
