Hi,
I am not able to choose a custom action in Rules Wizard
for Outlook 2002. It works in Outlook 2000 if I add a new
key "Custom Actions" in the registry. But it doesn't work
for Outlook 2002 maybe because of different registry
settings.
It is mainly for configuring the Visual Basic-Based
Active Messaging Inbox Agent which is used to save
incoming mails and attachments described in
article 173915 for Outlook 2002.
Can anyone please help me out.

Custom actions were pretty much broken in the initial release of Outlook 2002. SP2 supposedly fixed most of the problems, but I've still heard a few rumblings. What symptoms do you see when you try to add an action?

Hi Sue,
Thanks for the response.
In Outlook 2000 I had no problems because when I added the
key in the registry and clicked on custom action in Rules
Wizard I got Launch in the dropdown. But when I do the
same in Outlook 2002 the dropdown is just blank. Though I
did exactly the same as did for 2000. Or maybe shouldn't I
do the same? Is it because of different registry settings
for 2002. If so can you please tell me where to update the
registry?

I would try rerunning the custom action setup, because it sounds like it may not have registered itself properly. What action are you using anyway? And what build of OUtlook 2002 are you using?

Thanks for the continued support.
It is Outlook 2002, 10.2627.2625. I'll explain what I want
to do clearly.
I've used Launcher.dll (article 173915) in custom action to
pass message id to a VB program which looks for specific
ids in subject, creates directories based on ids, saves
mail text and attachments in the created folder and
updates an excel file with the date of receipt of mail.
The only problem is finding Launch in custom action for
OL2002.
Can you please tell me how to rerun the custom action
setup. If nothing works for the moment, I'll change VB to
Outlook VBA because I'm not particular in using Launcher.
Can you give me your suggestions about this.

As I said in my original response to your post, custom actions are broken in the original release of Outlook 2002, which is what you have. You would need to upgrade to SP2.

To rerun the action setup, check the instructions you got when you downloaded that action.

My problem is similar to Sara's, but with a couple twists. I too use
Launcher.dll to automate processes based on a specific message, but I am
using Outlook 2003. I DO see Launch in the Custom Actions drop-down, but
when I select Launch and then click Change, it doesn't prompt me for the
path to the *.exe file.

Any ideas?
